What’s different about these two pieces of cake?
Have you ever had to make a quick choice in selecting which piece of cake you want?
Do I want the bigger piece, or maybe the one with more icing?
You can’t help yourself but to compare them.
Think about this next time you are being compared to another leader, or a competitor.
According to researchers at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, it takes less than two-tenths (.2) of a second for someone to form a first opinion of you and your brand. Following that, it takes just another 2.6 seconds for the viewer’s eyes to track in a way that reinforces their first impression.
Whew! Talk about pressure!
This is why knowing how you are different and compared to others is critical to your success.
Most of us want to be recognized for our differences—the unique qualities that made us special and helped us stand out from everyone else. From my experience in being an identical twin, It took me years of trying to be something or someone else before I grasped this important truth—the shortest road to being different is to be more of who I am.
The same applies to you.
